Pretzel Dogs

Quorn hot dogs wrapped in soft and chewy pretzel dough - perfect with homemade fries or make mini versions for snacking or party finger food.

Ever since making my first batch of soft and chewy pretzels and realising how easy they are to make, I've wanted to try out a few other things that can be done with the dough.  Ok, so the first attempt at turning a pizza inside out to make stuffed pizza pretzel rolls was a pretty bad fail but things have been going swimmingly since!

First came the pizza pretzel knot

…and now the pretzel dog!

Originally I was going to try to make baked corn dogs but am glad I decided against that (for now!) because these are so tasty!

Even though I'm not a vegetarian, I love the convenience of using Quorn products plus they tend to be a little healthier than their meaty cousins so when I spotted their hot dogs I knew that they needed to be snuggled up in a pretzel dough blankie.  I'm pretty sure meaty dogs would work well as well…

Preheat your oven to 205C (fan oven).

Roll your dough (recipe here) into a long strip about a foot long and about 8 inches wide.

Starting at one end of the dough start rolling it around the hot dog until only the ends are peeping out.  Try to get the ends of the dough to sit underneath the dog.

Brush beaten egg over the top of the dough (gives it a lovely, shiny and golden finish) and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

These would be great with a side of homemade fries or you could make mini versions which would be great for parties or snacking.
